Can I change my email address without creating a different account?

I have so many spams coming in every day. A friend said that changing my email address would be the only way to stop them. Can I change my email address without creating a different account?You can't just change your email address and keep all the same stuff. You will have to get a new yahoo account and start all over again. Sorry!!!
